Goodnight Walk Marshall

What needs to get done

On Saturday 17th May, Tenovus will be holding its annual ‘Goodnight Walk.’ The Mass Participation event sees hundreds of walkers helping to light up the night in Cardiff to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have been affected by cancer. The event begins and ends at Cardiff City Stadium. To ensure a successful event is held, we need a team of marshals to help keep walkers safe and sound on the route, cheering them on, helping with water stations and being a key point of contact for the event organisers.

What will I be doing?

There are a number of key roles on the night of the walk, including:

- Helping to register participants at the Welcome Desks at Cardiff City Stadium and help direct and guide walkers at the venue

- Manning the water stations on the route

- In pairs, man marshal points on the route, guiding walkers, cheering them on and making sure they are safe

- Walk leaders who will walk the route with the walkers, keeping them motivated and safe.

What skills do I need?

- A fun, friendly and outgoing personality

- Good communication skills

- Reliability and punctuality

- An ability to deal with any incidents in a cool and collected manner

- An enthusiasm for the work of Tenovus

- First aid skills would be an additional bonus, but are not necessary for the role.

How much time do I need to commit?

You will be asked to attend for a briefing prior to the event at around 7.30pm on Saturday 17th May. The walk will take place from around 10.00pm and may last until around 3.00am on Sunday 18th May. Please note that the weather is changeable and we advise that you wear warm, waterproof clothing. We ask that people commit to volunteering for at least three hours, but ideally you will be able to stay for the whole event, culminating in a big thank-you and refreshments at the end of the night.

What benefits can I expect?

- Being a key part of a Tenovus Mass Participation event

- Meeting lots of new people and being a part of Team Tenovus

- Reasonable travel expenses, in line with company policy.

What support will I be given?

- You will receive a briefing pack prior to the event which will give you all the information you need for the night

- A member of the team will give you a call before the event

- You will be provided with a reflective safety vest/jacket so you are fully visible and a Tenovus lanyard

- We ask that all volunteers carry their own personal mobile phone if possible and save key contacts

- You will be assigned a Senior Marshal for the section you will cover on the night.
