The Fantasy Ball

2012

The inaugural Fcancer Ball was held on April 28, 2012 at the Battersea power station and was a resounding success.

Our objectives were 3 fold to:

Introduce the charity's mission to get the young involved in the fight against cancer though donating skill-hours, a new form of charitable giving

Raise the funds necessary to launch and run the charity for the first year; and

Turn the traditional charity black-tie ball upside down and make sure everyone had a blast. The theme was "Time Travel to your fantasy world).

We were successful in all three objectives and our guests donated over 1,200 hours of their specific skill (which will be allocated to charities as the platform rolls-out), these ranged from legal work and accounting to film editing and set design.

We also managed to raise a net amount of GBP 150,000 through a combination of the silent auction, live auction, pop-up gallery and individual donations! This amount covers the first years budget comprising of the buildout of the technological platform (back-end, Interaction design, visual design), hiring a full-time employee and part-time engineer, as well as marketing and user acquisition costs. The budget surplus will be used for the annual Fcancer Grant.

We will be hosting one fundraiser a year to cover the charity's running costs while ensuring we make optimal use of available skills on the platform for Fcancer itself.
